EMA - Education Maintenance Allowance to help with the costs of further education.

What is EMA?

Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is a weekly payment of £40 to help 16 to 18 year olds with the costs of further education. It is provided by Student Finance Wales.

Payments are made every 2 weeks as long as you meet your school or college’s attendance, performance and behaviour requirements.

EMA is intended to assist you with Uniform costs; travel to open days; travel to Summer schools; travel to work experience; assist with the cost of resources - folders and stationery; and voluntary school trips etc.

If you are currently on receipt of/are eligible Free School Meals (FSM) you are most likely to qualify for EMA.  FSM do also continue into Sixth Form.
