Head of Sixth Form Welcome

Head of Sixth Form Message

Welcome

A very warm welcome to Archbishop McGrath Catholic High School’s Sixth Form.

As you prepare to make a very important decision of where and what to study, we are confident that our prospectus will give you a feel of what life is like at this school as a sixth form student. We will ensure that all students joining us, whether you stay with us from Year 11 or join us in Year 12 from another school, will settle quickly and feel a part of our unique community. At Archbishop McGrath we aim to provide a supportive and caring atmosphere in which our students can thrive and develop in a Christian Catholic community where you feel valued and understood. Our aim is that all of our students develop as thoughtful, independent and diligent young adults. We treat every Sixth Former as an individual and will assist you, whatever your level of ability, to reach your full academic potential.

Whatever pathway you choose, you will have access to high quality teachers in a culture of high expectations. Archbishop McGrath offers the opportunity to study both in school and in college, giving you a breadth of opportunities. This should allow you to fulfil your career aspirations, whether you continue in Further Education, Higher education or choose to enter into full time employment. We are very proud that the vast majority of our students fulfil their aspirations, many of whom continue on to Higher Education. Archbishop McGrath will provide you with Careers support and with expert advice to guide you on your journey. In addition, the compulsory Welsh Baccalaureate programme will develop your awareness of key skills that will be required for the world of work.

At Archbishop McGrath Sixth Form we operate with the motto “everything is possible to those who believe” (Mark 9:23). We seek to develop independent, autonomous learners who are diligent in their work and active in contributing to the Catholic life of the school. There is an excellent support structure in place where progress is monitored closely and supported by teachers and by the sixth form team to ensure students meet their full academic potential.

As your Head of Sixth Form, I operate an open door policy and will do my utmost to make your two years with us successful and enjoyable.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if I can be of assistance gavin.mcaleer@archbishopmg.co.uk
